In February of 2000, our church hosted guest speakers, Greg X and Barbara Volz. Greg was formerly the lead singer of the contemporary rock band Petra. Greg shared his ministry through music, and later his wife delivered a message for the congregation. After her message, Barbara led a time of prayer, during which she specifically prayed for married couples. Astonishingly, after praying for my husband and me, she conveyed that God was about to fulfill our long-held prayers and hopes. This was particularly poignant because our desire to have a child had been known throughout the church, given our seven years of marriage. Unexpectedly, she added the detail “by Easter.”
Although it had been quite a while and I had even received other prophecies about this, I must admit my faith was somewhat wavering. As the weeks passed, I didn’t dwell on it much. However, on the night preceding Easter, a friend called to ask if I had purchased a pregnancy test. I was taken aback by her memory. She encouraged me to take the test, even though I didn’t hold much hope. The instructions indicated taking it first thing in the morning when urine is most concentrated. Since I woke up at 3am, I decided to follow the guidance. When the test displayed a “positive” result, my eyes widened in disbelief. I urgently called out to my husband, announcing, “Guess what? It says I’m pregnant!” While we were both taken aback, our happiness was overwhelming.
Although I’m not one to readily step in front of a crowd, I recognized that this was an exceptional moment warranting a public announcement of our miraculous news. When I finally shared the news with the congregation, an eruption of cheers and shouts filled the church. It was an absolutely heartwarming and incredible experience. This entire journey brought to mind the lyrics, “All my life, You have been faithful…”
Our precious firstborn, William Isaac, entered the world in that beautiful December. This year, in 2023, he’s about to turn 23 – time flies! He has brought an immense amount of joy and blessings into our lives. His heart beats strongly for the Lord, and he pours that passion into playing the keyboard and drums for our worship team.
Our second bundle of joy, Jonathan Robert, joined our family just 22 months later. His love for God shines through brightly, and he’s got a natural gift for preaching. At the young age of 21, he’s already leading a college ministry on campus – such a proud and awe-inspiring achievement! As if that weren’t exciting enough, he’s also gearing up to tie the knot in the early months of next year. Our hearts are overflowing with pride and gratitude for our amazing sons.
